“STAR Theatre” was established in 2016, formed by a group of ex-offenders and community volunteers.
It is a theatre group for the rehabilitated ex-offenders or ex-drug abusers to explore their potentials and voice out. We hope to help them re-build their self-image, enhance their positivity, and at the same time, build a platform for them to express their voices, so that the public can deepen their understanding and acceptance of the rehabilitation process of rehabilitated ex-offenders and ex-drug addicts.

In this performance, STAR Theatre has made several new attempts, including collaborative scriptwriting by the actors, many of whom are amateur actors. It is also the first time a theater group has performed inside the former North Kowloon Magistrates' Court. All five shows were fully packed, and the audience greatly appreciated the actors' genuine stories, which were touching and resonated with them. The script also encouraged the audience to reflect on the meaning of labels, thereby promoting the promotion of "inclusivity and harmony.

In line with celebrations to mark SideBySide’s 65th year, the "So Uk" Musical Theatre was conceived and created under the theme of " inter-generational co-living social housing". It integrated life stories and social issues into the drama, and used artistic techniques to promote the messages of inclusiveness and crime prevention. Starting from the housing situation of ex-offenders, we hoped to connect the general public through stories, and arouse resonance. STAR Theatre specially recruited more than 10 young people to join the performance, and co-operated with Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong to invite deaf artist to participate in the performance, demonstrating artistic integration through "Theatrical Interpretation".

''Heroes'' stimulated audiences to think about the definition of hero. Who is a hero? The one who believes in chance? Believe in fortune? Take risks? Or have courage to start over? The story was performed in the form of a musical, accompanied by dances, plus five original songs, which touched audiences' hearts. The play drew favorable feedbacks and was rerun for the second time in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Theatre in 2017.
