CECPS began to organize volunteers to visit schools and farmers in Liannan since 2006. The service recruited ex-offenders and volunteers to visit the students, enabled them to contribute to the underprivileged. They were contented with own actions, and got empowered. Throughout the visit, it also enhanced communication between community members and rehabilitated ex-offenders
The visiting group had grown from 10 volunteers to more than 30 volunteers. Every year, they made the visit in Easter. Over the years, they visited many schools, including Damaishan Central Primary School, Central Gang Primary School, Houdong Primary School, and Tangli Keng Primary School, Jinkeng Primary School, Baimang Primary School, Minority Primary School, etc. In addition to meeting with students and playing mass games, they visited students’ homes to learn about the lives of locals. Furthermore, volunteers also assisted in the renovation of the school buildings to improve the learning environment of students.
Our volunteers and their friends also donated materials to the schools, such as desks and chairs, stationery sets, living necessities, etc. to improve the living environment of school children. In addition to material donation, a “Student Aid Programme” was started in 2012. The eligible children received aid to complete high school in the 2017-18 school year. With the improvement of the community environment, and the mainland’s tightened measures for overseas school visits, the service ended in April 2018. We thanked all who had participated in this project over the years.
